Hi abhishekpandey0212,

CAT results are really only accurate if you take the ENTIRE CAT under test-like conditions that mimic the details of what you'll face on Test Day. The more you deviate from that, the more your scores can deviate (and often those scores become "inflated").

In real basic terms, you never trained to face the FULL GMAT, so it's not a surprise that you did not perform at a high level OVERALL on Test Day. I mentioned in the prior post that a "book-heavy" study approach can be a problem for a lot of Test Takers - it's because you essentially have to teach yourself to use the proper tactics and do the necessary work. Without a video/Instructor guiding you, you likely didn't practice in an effective way. To raise your Verbal score, you're going to need more than just books. Since your Quant Score is so high, you'll probably only need to do a little work to keep that score at that level, so you should look into the various Verbal Course options available (either Guided Self-Study or Instructor-Led) and choose the one that best matches your personality, timeline and budget.

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hi,

I have wrote GMAT last week (QUANT 47, VERBAL 24), seriously i am very depressed after seeing my scores. I have prepared for last 3 months, used MGMAT SC, CR and OG13 but nothing helps in me in getting through verbal section. I have good command over SC but it fails when mainly RC comes into the picture.
Please guide me what to do now and how to improve Verbal score in my next GMAT exam.

Hi Abhishekpandey0212,

Sorry to hear about our score. I assume that you plan to retake the exam? If so, here is a tip about RC: continue to practice taking notes, especially for those long passages. It may appear like it's taking a long time at first, but you'll get used to this method and you'll work quicker as you keep practicing. This will also help you as you work to answer the question. You probably heard this a lot, but read...a lot. Read publications like the Economist or the op-ed pieces in the NY Times will be helpful.

Hang in there and best of luck!
