Hi Shyam,

To score 700+, you're going to have to make some significant improvements to your Verbal Score (although a V40 isn't necessary to hit that score range).

From what you've described, it sounds like you've been trying to teach yourself how to handle the Verbal section (and you took a 'brute force' approach - doing lots of practice problems without emphasizing consistent tactics). Thankfully, all of this is relatively easy to 'fix' - but you'll have to invest the necessary time and effort to learn and practice the proper tactics.

Since you already have some familiarity with the content, you won't have to start over 'from scratch.' As such, I can recommend the EMPOWERgmat Verbal Score Booster. Most of our clients finish that Study Plan in under a month, so it wouldn't take too long to get in that practice. During that time, you'll also be able to access any of the Quant resources that interest you.

If you have any additional questions, then just let me know.

Rich ,

Could you please tell me more about EmpowerGmat because im very much new to it and also how well will it improve my verbal scores.

You have mentioned that to score morethan 700 a score of v40 wont be necessary. In that case could you tell me what would the average score i should look for in verbal with keeping my quants score fixed around 47 - 49.

Thanks and Regards
Shyam

Hi Shyam,

Rather than try to explain every facet of the EMPOWERgmat Course in text, here's a link that will probably answer most (if not all) of your questions:

https://www.empowergmat.com/the-course/

There are a number of different 'combinations' of Scaled Scores that will allow you to score 700+, but they can sometimes vary from year to year (there's a slight 'curve' in the scoring algorithm). If you can score higher in the Quant section, then you can afford to score slightly lower in the Verbal section. These days, a Q49/V37 would probably get you a 700 (give or take). If you score below Q49 though, you would need to 'make up' those points in the Verbal section.

Hi

I took 5 mock so far and scored either 48 or 49 in quants but never scored more than 25 in verbal.Today i took my actual GMAT and scored 23 in verbal and 48 in quants.Have planned to re-take the exam so how do i improve by verbal score

Kindly advice

Thanks,
Shyam

Hey Shyam,

The SC section is the easiest verbal section to make improvements on. Once you understand how to think and approach this question type, there are only so many ways you can be tested. Here at GMAT Pill we developed the 10 core frameworks which detail the 10 ways to approach GMAT sentence corrections.

Here is a sample video detailing one of the core frameworks: https://www.gmatpill.com/gmat-practice-t ... stion/2184

For CR, we recommend a visual framework approach to help you understand the complex short passages and how each item relates to each other.

Here is a video describing the visual framework approach: https://www.gmatpill.com/criticalreasoni ... Estate.mp4

To improve RC - you really need visual guidance. Don't read articles about how to improve reading. You improve by actually doing or watching someone else do.

That's why you might find these video walkthroughs helpful: https://www.gmatpill.com/practicequestio ... tions.html

Best of luck on your studies!

Hi Aditi,

Shyam last posted in the forums over 3 years ago (and last visited over 1 year ago), so you might not receive an answer to your questions. It's sounds like you're looking to improve on your GMAT Score though. Before I can offer you the specific advice that you might be looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) How have you scored on EACH of your CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your goal score?
5) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
6) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
7) What Schools are you planning to apply to?
