Are you Exams…..ick??
Everyone gets stressed out during exams and it's essential not to let it get out of control. Following are the common signs of stress and the best ways to calm yourself...
If you are someone who has never been stressed about exams, you may want to continue reading and if that uneasy and clumsiness in your head sounds familiar, well read on….. Even if only a tiny bit, we have all experienced it at certain points in our lives. For most of us, exams are the most stressful times of our lives.
While (only a little bit of) stress does us good, How could we motivate ourselves to memorize the scary looking formulae and equation if we weren't really bothered about them?
All of us are stressed (with varying levels of course), and sometimes our stress levels are so high that we end up getting nightmares around the exam. This can hinder our optimal performance and create chaos with our body as well as our mind.
Symptoms, do they sound familiar?
Difficulty in sleeping or waking up
Extreme and constant exhaustion
Lack of memory
Body aches and pains
Loss of appetite
Headaches
If you've noticed three or more of the above symptoms and you've experienced them for a few days you may need to do something about your stress levels.
So how should I deal with exam stress?
Well, you must first learn to identify when you're stressing out. A break or a quick chat with someone who knows the pressure you're under will set things right.
Avoid comparing your abilities with your friends. Everyone does revision in a different way, so just make sure you've chosen the method that works best for you. Make a sensible timetable adhere to it.
Eat right and sleep well. Exercise. Nothing distresses the mind faster than physical activity. Build it into your timetable.
Panic is often triggered by quick, shallow breathing. So if you feel yourself stressed during the exam, sit back for a moment and control your breathing. Deep breath in and out through the nose. Counting to five every time you inhale and exhale.
Putting an end to this, there is life after the exam as well, the world does not end just because you think that one exam did not go well, who knows, it might not be as bad as you think….
