Great job on your GMAT and thinking about the application process.
The most value you can bring at this point in time is likely through being very focused on your career and progression at the bank/firm, leveraging resources you have at your disposal (e.g. Mentors, leadership opportunities at work and in your community) and having an overall focused approach to everything you do.
Don't take the few years you are going to wait as a pure pressure to work, volunteer, and be a president of your condo association, book club, and animal shelter. Instead, keep this plan in the back of your mind and there is an opportunity that you think is good but would be annoying and worthless to your career, look at it from the bschool perspective.
I would recommend reading through the essays for the top 20 schools and looking at what they are asking and what kind of experience would be helpful. (Don't worry about shortlisting schools yet. You definitely can but not a big diff). Then when opportunities pop up, you can really go beyond the call of duty knowing the ROI will be high.
Finally, there are some advanced services that a few consultants offer (
Admissionado is one) for people who are a few years away in their apps. If you have some money, they offer an initial master plan development and then monthly support and calls to keep you accountable and on track. If you don't have a good mentor or support network, this could be handy.
Good Luck!
