Hi oishik2910,

Taking FULL-LENGTH CATs (including the Essay and IR sections) at regular intervals is a MUST during your training. If you have not taken any yet, then we have NO idea of your actual strengths and weaknesses. As such, you should plan to take a FULL CAT sometime soon (perhaps this weekend). Once you have your scores, you should report back here and we can talk through your study options.

It is normal to get only around 60% correct on an exam, even at the 700 level. Have you gotten any actual 200-800 scores yet?

As for your study, it looks like you have been working on verbal topics one at a time. This is not the most effective way to learn. Work on topics one small piece at a time, and study several topics at a time. It's important to build your skills over the long term and return to concepts repeatedly so that they stick.

And I haven't given any cat everyone say's to save it for last
Don't leave it too late. If you're taking the exam end March, you probably want to start testing soon so that you can get an idea of where to direct your efforts.

Ah, I just noticed that bit about the CATs. You should take one CAT to start and then another every few weeks, or whenever you've made noticeable progress in your studies. Then as your test date approaches, you should take one CAT per week for the last 3-4 weeks. Taking this test under timed conditions requires a great deal of skill and discipline, and you want to get plenty of practice. I would question anyone who advises you to delay that practice until the end.

i gave a 800 score gmat test yesterday and was bit disappointed
i scored 620
quant -48
verbal -26
in quant i got 30 questions correct/37 and in verbal i got 26/41 questions(out which 3 were marked wrong as i had flagged them which i had no idea why)

but i was disappointed with verbal
i panic in SC but got 79 percent correct
in rc -46%
in cr -50%

please help how to improve
i found the og questions of cr very easy and almost get 90 % accuracy in them while in the test i found many answer not properly matching and i had a dilemma in choosing between them
please advice thriving for above 700

Hi oishik2910,

With the time that you have remaining, you'll have to be efficient with your studies. As such, to figure out what resources would best help you to improve, I suggest that you study as you see fit for the next week (you'll clearly want to focus on the Verbal section, and you can use whatever resources and methods that you like). For your next CAT, you should use one of the Official GMAC CATs, take the FULL CAT (including the Essay and IR sections) and take it at the same time of day as your Official GMAT. Once you have that score, you should report back here and we can determine how to adjust your study plan going forward.

Hi oishik2910,

These 2 CAT scores are fairly close to one another, so assuming that you took the FULL CAT and did so under test-like conditions, your current 'score level' is in the low 600s.

It's not clear what you mean when you say that you were "mostly....bored" during the CAT, but if you're not fully 'invested' in this process (and you're not putting in the necessary effort and energy to improve), then you might find it difficult to hit your goal score. You CAN train to score higher, but you'll likely need to adjust how you 'see' (and respond to) this Test; you would also likely benefit by investing in some new GMAT materials and learning/practicing some new Tactics.

1) Have you scheduled an Official Test Date yet?

thanks rich

by bored i took the test in similar conditions as the conditions are in actual test apart from passport checking and all and by the time i was about to finish each section i was struggling with time in quant and in verbal i was seriously worked up after the 15 or 16 th question everything was exhaustive and my patience was giving up ,in one rc i didn't even read the passage and just started finding answers of the questions though i luckily i got all the 3 questions right .
i had faced a similar situation while i gave gre and ended up in low verbal score

and no i havent booked any test date waiting for a par score in mocks then gonna book one
and regarding new materials please suggest some
and i guess for me its the application of the rules and methodology in verbal in test conditions which is at problem

Hi oishik2910,

The GMAT is going to take the same general amount of time to complete whether you score at a high level or not, so you have to look at dealing with each section in an 'efficient' way. To that end, you have to stay calm, go through the necessary 'steps' that each question requires and make smart choices throughout. Based on everything that you’ve described, I think that you would find the EMPOWERgmat Total Score Booster to be quite helpful. Most of our clients complete that Study Plan in well under 2 months, so the time commitment wouldn't be that bad. We have a variety of free resources on our site (www.empowergmat.com), so you can 'test out' the Course before setting up an Account.

If you have any additional questions, then you can feel free to contact me directly.
