Hey, GMAT Intrepids!
I get asked all the time about what is the best way to get started conquering the GMAT!
1) RESEARCH YOUR SCHOOLS: You have at least an inkling where you want/need to go. Find those schools on the Web, and discover what those sites publish as a competitive GMAT score for admission.
2) Take a practice test--any practice test (PT), whether on the official site or with a test-prep provider like Kaplan. Just make sure that the PT also comes with a detailed read-out of your strengths and areas of greatest point-growth opportunity. Pay especial attention to TIMING--were you able to get to every question?
3) ASK AN EXPERT like me or Teresa as to your next steps.
