Hi,
After my disasterious experiences with GMAT, I stepped back and tried to understand what I did wrong. I could achieve good scores at home during the practices, but why not at the testing center.. I thought I was ready in terms of my knowledge but the more I read this website and few others, I noticed that I wasn't.
I extracted some advices from others who achieved 7**.
If you knew what you know now, what would you suggest yourself on how to study GMAT i.e. which books, strategies, etc.???
Study steps:
---------------
1. Review basics!
2. Complete OG (including CR and RC)
3. PR verbal
4. GMAT 800
5. sentencecorrection.com and gmatclub.com participation
6. 885 SC and CR
Study strategies:
--------------------
1. Improve your reading speed
2. My-life-depends-on-this-problem attitude
3. Take a step back and analyze your mistakes ... dont
just practice
- know how to explain each and every mistake in
your own words.
- know how to accept and reject each answer choice.
- analyze the CR and RC in an excruciating way. Do not simply go to the answer key and say: "Oh, it was A, I got E. Let's move on". That is the worst approach and will only ensure that you know the answer, not the concepts.
4. Practice a lot of CR and RC questions. you may not improve your CR and RC skills but what improve significantly are your focus and concentration in these questions by practicing a lot and reaching to a level where you are not scared of seeing unfamiliar topics and language. Increased focus will increase your speed and you will gain extra time in lieu of that.
5. Know the basics (math and verbal) really well!
(i.e. the function of participles.. how to use relative pronoun correctly, parallelism concept, basic idioms, modulus, inequalities and probability)
6. More practice you do..more will you realize that it’s all about basics and keeping your cool..once this onfidence sets in ..you will not panic in test
7. During your GMAT preparation sleep enough, eat healthy and to definately incorporate exercise in your life-patterns. (Do not just stop life for studying GMAT!)
