Hello All,

About Me:
Mid 20’s
Undergrad: BFA Fashion & Graphic Design
Work: 4 yrs exp as a designer, 1.5 yrs as a brand manager
Took the GMAT after a Princeton Review class Nov 2006: walked away with a 430 :(

That’s when I realized that the tricks would not help me, I needed to learn the content. Therefore I enrolled in courses at Community College with the guidance of Admissions at my top school choice.

As of today I have taken: English 101 (helped with writing and grammar), Statistics, Elementary & Intermediate Algebra and Trigonometry, and Intro to Business. I am also starting an Accounting and Pre-Calc class this week.

Hi Nitty!

What have you been scoring on your practice exams lately? That will be a good indicator of what you can expect in 30 days.

Your work exp stats look very solid and would stand out in any bschool. I'm envious! The only problem is conveying to the adcoms that you can handle the rigors of bschool, by way of gmat.

I would concentrate on the quant portion since you admit that math was not a req during your undergrad days.

Also, I would NOT aim for a 700, unless you are consistently hitting 700 already. In the process of trying to attain 700+ you might lose points on questions you would normally get right or would get right if given an extra 30 seconds. Do not spread yourself too thin. Aim for a more moderate 650-660 and anything over will be icing on the cake. This means skipping questions that you do not need to answer.

You can aim for a 700+ and end up with 600 struggling through questions you will get wrong anyway.

OR

You can aim for a 650 and get a 670 b/c you allocated your time correctly, skipped difficult questions and answered correctly a couple of questions you normally wouldn't b/c you had extra time by skipping.

With your background, mid 600s should suffice for any bschool.

Good luck.

Thanks kidderek,

If only I read your advice before I took my practice exam today.

I took a PrincetonReview Test only math section and scored a 33.

Took MGMAT today and boomed on the math section (too embarrassed to say) and a 32 on Verbal.

Why, Why, Why, LMAO! Got more work to do! I must work on timing and word translation for the math problems.

Latah :)

Hey all,

I just wanted to introduce myself to the board. I plan on taking the exam the first of December. I am trying to take a practice exam by the end of this month so I know where to concentrate and spend some time. I would have to say that I have been studying from the Princeton Review Book (2008 ed) and it was interesting to see the types of questions that are on the GMAT.

As for my schools, we'll see. I currently work for a consulting firm that will pay for my schooling if I go part-time, but part of me would like to go back full-time- preferably on the east coast.

-Currently 25
-Graduated in 05 with a BS in Bus Admin/HR Mang,
-Worked in leadership development for two years and got into the corporate consulting world this past April.

Best of luck to everyone who is studying or currently attending class.

n00b here too...signed up yesterday after a friend pointed me to the site.

Background:

Graduated with a Bachelors in Accounting and Economics
Work as a Financial Analyst at McGraw-Hill (International Finance Division)

I have literally started studying for the GMATS as of this past Monday using the OG book. After reading some of the threads on this site, I feel like there is sooooo much more that I have to do than just read the OG book. I have also signed up for the Kaplan course which starts next Tuesday. I've been out of school for 6 years and thought the Kaplan course would help me get back into study mode and would help me learn some tactics about preparing myself for this test.

What is a good plan of action for someone such as myself, who is literally just starting his journey towards taking the GMATS? Also, what is a good plan of action in looking at schools? This part confuses me the most.

Thanks.
