I am not sure if I have sloved it correctly

The Equation will be
0.1X +0.2Y = 0.5(X+Y). where X+Y = Z

From, 1, Y= 10
0.1X + 2 = 0.5(X+2)
0.5X – 0.1X = 1
0.4X = 1
So, X = 2.5……….Sufficient

From 2, Z= 16
0.1X + 0.2Y = 0.5(16)
0.1X + 0.2Y = 8
& X+ Y = 16………Sufficient

Hi Mitul I got the same equation, but I think it should be
0.1X +0.02Y = 0.05(X+Y). where X+Y = Z
and not 0.1X +0.2Y = 0.5(X+Y). where X+Y = Z
My answer is D. What is the OA

I am getting the answer as A.
St1 is suff
st2 just gives value of x+y and from this we can not find the value of x

Agree - I get A. we have an equation with X and Y and Z is nothing but X+Y. so knowing Y we can solve for X.

I get A.

(0.1X+0.02Y)/(X+Y)=0.05(X+Y)/(X+Y)

Plugging in Y=10, gives X=6

Z=16 doesn't solve this.

So A.

I get D

From 1) We know y, therefore can work out how much of x we need to make mixture 5% SUFF

From 2) We know total amount of mixture = 16 = z We know that it must be 5% and so we can work out relative amounts of x&y to achieve this SUFF

For 2) We would work it out as follows:

10x+2y=5z z=x+y ------> 10x+2y = 5(x+y) -------> 10x+2y = 5x+5y

5x = 3y or y = 5x/3 We also know that z = 16

so 10x + 2(5x/3) = 5*16 ----> 10x + 10x/3 = 80

30x + 10x = 240 -----> 40x = 240 ----> x = 6 tonnes

Plug into y = 5x/3 ----> y = 5(6)/3 = 10 tonnes

So we need 6 tonnes of x and 10 tonnes of y to give a 16 tonne mixture of 5%

SUFF!
