I'm here because I don't know what to do. I've been studying for the GMAT since November. I don't have much time per day because I work 40 hours a week, but I try to put in a minimum of 10 hours a week. All of my practice test have been in the 550 - 590 range with an average of Q30 V32. But the first time I took the official test in December I got a 450 (Q21, V30). I have since taken more practice test with very little improvement. I enrolled in a prep course and took it twice (I won't name the company because it's not their fault).
It is now June, my original 2nd test date was June 20th so I decided to take the official GMATprep practice test and I scored a 460 (Q27, V27). Needless to say I rescheduled my test to August. I don't know what to do, I can't keep spending all of this money to get nowhere, and that's exactly where I feel like I'm going, nowhere.
How is it that people are able to go in and get 600s with little to no effort and I am literally doing the best I can and I can't get a score high enough to get into school?
First, I see that you were so hurried to take GMAT. You are wasting your money in taking GMAT test and the GMATPrep available CATs. You shouldn't take the test and/or GMATPrep CATs too often while you aren't sure about your ability to get target score. Also, you shouldn't take CATs too often since this work won't help you improve your score but a good strategy will.
Since you said that you don't know what to do next, I recommend you to cancel the test date and set a strategy for preparing. Try to analyze your previous score and find out what are your strength and weakness. Then try to sharpen your strength and improve your weakness. If your course at that Gmatprep Comapny is still valid, I suggest that you ask them for a good strategy, ask them to analyze your ability based on your score at official test and GMATPrep. I hope they will deliver you useful information for your practice.
I see that people often find Quant section easier to improve score. I think that you are also no exception. Try to improve your Quant by practice it everyday. Also note that, a lot of people have to work for 40 hours or more a week but they are still able to score 700+, so please dont use this fact as your excuse. Good luck!
