I have been reviewing this test for the past months too, and I have given it a lot of time and a lot of my money. After 4 months of solid studying, I took my first complete
MGMAT prep last Wednesday and got a dismaying 580. I couldn’t believe it. My Math was Q43, which was a little lower than the Q45 I got the first time around (I didn’t do the English then, just Math). This time I did my verbal, what did I get? a 28!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn’t believe it. I was getting 75% accuracy in the OGs, what was wrong?.
I didn’t want to make an excuse to myself, but it was 11PM already that day, and I came from an 8hour workday + 2hours of driving. I was tired, but no excuses. I actually never even thought about it, but my girlfriend pointed the fatigue factor while she tried to comfort me. I am a grown man, but last Tuesday night I almost broke down. I studied, practiced and practiced nonstop like a crazy robot the day after. By Thursday, I was already exhausted, and also depressed. Bummed out. Just like you my man. My girlfriend, who is also studying for the GMAT, kept pushing me.
I’ll say it again, this just happened last Tuesday. Yesterday, Sunday, with my girlfriend’s insistence, I took the GMAT in the afternoon (feeling fresh this time.) You know what my score was in the verbal section?? V42. 96%!!!!!!!! IT would have been a 97% if I made the last question. Now I know my quant still has ways to go (Q43, 70%), but it can only go up from there. I had my first 700 yesterday!!! from 580 to 700 in 5 days!!!!!!! It’s an emotional roller coaster ride.
Lesson of my story I want to share with you:
1. Fatigue counts. Don’t take a test after a long day. I never hear people in the gmatclub say that a lot, so I didn’t believe it!! But fatigue really counts!
2. If you feel that you should be getting better that what you did in the CATs, it could just be fatigue/test stamina/etc. Build your stamina most importantly. Take some CATs (but don’t over do it), it builds confidence too. You probably did a lot of math problems in your study, and you must have done well. So just take the test again, and brush off the jitters. You need to build confidence!
3. The lowest I got from a GMATprep test is 490. I wish I could say "thats without study", but that was with study (Princeton Review books suck). Now I am at 700. 490-700, not bad for an average man like me. I am guessing you are smart, from what you said in your post. Youre proobably smarter than I am too. If I could do it, then you could do it for sure.
