Don't worry...it's not a big deal. Just write to the admissions office that the check is in the mail.

Well, not so much. I could enroll, but I couldn't pay my stinkin' deposit. They have to get a check, and I'm not sure if it needs to be received or just post-marked by Monday. I am a doofus. And for being a fancy-schmancy business school, they seem not so up on the beauty that is online credit card payments. Or EFTs.

I guess I will make one last trip to Kinko's tomorrow morning. Overnight mail: the best thing that ever happened to a procrastinator. NDHLP gave me a priceless look when I told him. Doh.

Geez, I hope it is postmarked by Monday. Haven't responded or sent in my deposit yet. Will probably do that on Monday.
Yes, I'm leaning towards Duke too.

I would highly recommend giving them a call.

If you got a scholarship, your response is due April 16 - tomorrow. If not, then it's May 1.

I went to Kinko's and for a mere $22, my check will be in their office at 10am tomorrow.

Monday is the deadline to lock in your scholarship money. I tried to get a one week extension to submit it since I was attending UNC's admit weekend, which ended today, but Duke declined my request and recommended that since I was going to be in the area I should just drive it over.

I'm currently in Raleigh. I suppose when I leave town - if I don't drive over to Durham - I will know which school Im going to ...

We'll see what happens.

I'm sending you "drive to durham" vibes. Can you feel the overwhelming urge to point your car in that direction?

Will do

I think I will be fine because they didn't answer my request for an increase in scholarship until last Friday.

By the way, did you guys see the new 2007-2008 COA estimate? It's about 6% higher than last year.

I missed a second deposit and was subsequently 'rejected' from a school.

A second deposit was due by 5pm Friday. It completely slipped my mind and I called the admissions office and left a voicemail saying I will send a check first thing Monday morning. They called me Monday morning and told me that I had forfeited my seat and I was already replaced. I thought it was pretty funny that they wouldn't refund my first deposit, but was able to find a replacement before start of business the following Monday. What's funnier is that a check is a promise to pay, not exactly like, but similar to the voicemail I left.

Hope that doesn't happen to you.

Well, I didn't drive to Durham on Monday, so I have apparently made my decision.

I really liked Duke and the people I met over BDW, and Duke was kind enough to increase my scholarship 150% over the last month, but I also really liked UNC and they were just too generous: full tuition and fees, a free trip abroad, a stipend (!), plus other perks. It was too hard to turn down.

I did love Duke and all things being equal I might have decided differently. But the prospect of coming out of a Top 20 MBA program with virtually no debt was just too hard to ignore (particularly in light of my age - older than most here).

C'est la vie.

So I suspect its time to reveal my new avatar.

Great choice rustmonster. Sounds like UNC put together a great package for you. I guess all us ex-lawyers get full scholarships :) My thinking was similar to yours in that I already racked up debt going to law school, and it would be nice to avoid it this time around.

Congrats Rustmonster! That's an amazing offer, you'll no doubt have a blast at UNC.

By the way, what does "Rustmonster" mean?

Congrats Rustmonger.

It was a difficult decision for me too since UNC also offered me full tuition and fees and other perks. Ultimately, I chose Duke. At my request, Duke increased my scholarship and I would end up paying around $32K extra for attending Duke.
