Inspired by comments from the community - all of this is imaginative speculation, not gospel.HBS ↔ Stanford ↔ Wharton - The eternal triangle at the topThese three fight over the same cross-admits more than any other set of schools. Stanford pulls the "mission-driven" crowd west. HBS keeps the case-method loyalists. Wharton wins on finance. Arrows go in all directions because literally everyone is everyone's backup.
MIT Sloan ↔ HBS - Two schools, one zip code, completely different vibesThey're literally down the river from each other. Sloan gets the quant-heads, entrepreneurs, and anyone who puts "systems thinker" in their bio. HBS gets... everyone else who also applied to Sloan. Massive applicant overlap, wildly different cultures.
Kellogg & Booth → HBS & Wharton - The most debated arrows on the whole mapThe community went hard on this one. Kellogg and Booth aren't really "Chicago schools" anymore - their grads end up in NYC and SF just as often as Chicago. They recruit nationally, their cross-admit battles run straight through HBS and Wharton, and they're tied #2 in Fortune 1000 C-suite placements. The dashes mean "national punchers" - they're swinging at the same weight class, not just regional players.
Booth → Wharton - The finance lane specificallyFor anyone going into PE, investment banking, or quant finance, Booth vs. Wharton is a genuine dilemma. Both place heavily on the Street. The arrow goes one-way only because Booth applicants often have Wharton as their reach - not the reverse.
Tuck ↔ Darden ↔ Fuqua - The three-way fight to the deathThese three occupy almost the exact same niche: tight-knit community, general management focus, strong alumni networks, and applicants who specifically want "culture" over brand name. If you're on one list, you're almost certainly on the other two. They don't know whether to hug or fight.
Ross ↔ Fuqua - The Midwest-to-DC corridorAdded based on community input: DC-based professionals applying to Fuqua and Darden tend to also have Ross on their list. Midwest folks applying to Ross often look at Fuqua. The arrows cross more than geography suggests.
Anderson ↔ Marshall - The LA derbyTwo schools in the same city competing for the same SoCal-rooted applicants who want to stay in LA post-MBA. Same employers, same alumni events, same freeways.
McCombs ↔ Rice Jones - Everything is bigger in Texas, including the rivalryAustin vs. Houston. Both fight for Texas-based energy, tech, and finance talent who'd rather stay in the state than chase an M7 admit. Simple regional logic.
Special mention: Goizueta — just vibingNo arrows. No beef. Emory Goizueta is apparently out here minding its business and thriving. Several people in the comments felt the need to specifically say this. Respect.
None of this reflects official rankings, admissions data, or any school's actual position on their rivals. It's a fun thought experiment.
