Alright y'all I need some advice.
My Situation:
My father is very ill with stage 3 liver cancer. I just found out this news over Christmas. I immediately changed my fulltime GSB app into a part-time app and was accepted to the weekend program. I also resigned my commission as a Captain in the Marine Corps. The Marines has been my only post college work experience. Now I am actively looking for a job in a tough market, Salt Lake City, Utah. The jobs are tough to come by and don't pay what I would like and don't carry the type of responsibility that I have grown accustomed to as a military officer. Hopefully, that didn't sound whiny.
Here are the questions: Should I try to get into a job closer to what I want to do now? or should I just take the highest paying job? Is a small unknown or unglamorous job going to hurt my career? Is this job going to effect my career post MBA or should I just see this as a stepping stone while working through school?
My thoughts post mba are to work for a company like GE on acquiring new businesses. I have no relevant financial skills right now at all back that up.
At this point I have explored VERY entry-level positions with financial service companies and some project managemnt jobs with various companies from small to fortune 100 size for double the income.
Is the experince of working in a financial service company at the grunt level worth anything at all? What if I get promoted a few times?
The PM stuff is more aligned with my experience, but not necessarily my interest.
I apologize in advance for the long drawn out post, but any comments, thoughts, or JOBS would be much appreciated.
GO BUCKS!
