In my humble opinion, both math and verbal are equally important in life. Maybe it is not that important to know the minor minor details of verbal that are tested in the SC portion of the GMAT, but you can argue that it is not that important to know how to calculate the area of a triangle in your business career. However, some math topics are obviously crucial for every person to know, just as some of the verbal material taught. It cannot be stressed how important reading comprehension and critical reasoning skills are in the work place.

I think I should have been more specific when I said Verbal. By verbal i meant SC. RC and CR would be pretty useful yes. But Quant is used way ahead in day to day life than we would make use of any of the verbal skills we would acquire via GMAT.
