To the person who gets a mid 600 score, and says they “bombed”, STFU!

I have been studying for over a year. My initial score on the mock test on GMAC was a 550. A year later after studying Manhattan Prep, Veritas, Magoosh, and currently in E-Gmat, and getting consistently in the mid to high 600’s (striving for the mid 700s) in the practice tests, 40+ hours with several tutors, I took the the GMAT today and got a 550. I don’t know what to do.

Error logs? Got them.
Concept notes? Got them
I study 20+ hours a week (2-3 hours on week days and 5+ hours per Weekend days)

I feel like I have wasted a year of my life and nothing has helped me. I know I have to take it again but, how the hell can I get the score I need?! I feel like I have exhausted everything, and don’t know what to do.

Please help

Hi JessGoWitDaFlow,

I'm sorry to hear that Test Day didn't go as well as planned. When these types of score drops occur, the two likely "causes" involve either something that was unrealistic during practice or something that was surprising (or not accounted for) on Test Day. Before we discuss any of those potential issues though, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

1) What has you study routine been like over the last year? Did you take any 'time off' during that time? Over the last 2 months, how many hours did you typically study each week?
2) What "brands" of practice CATs/mocks have you taken so far?
3) On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
4) What is your exact Goal Score?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

If you took your GMAT at a Test Center, then you might also choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong on Test Day (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
