I visited 3 top 10 schools this week. I heard many students in the different business program say ____ was the right "fit" for me.... Then go on to say the culture was what brought me in, and a whole bunch of other nonsense. They were then asked what other schools were you considering? Each student listed off the schools they chose between, and it was clearly obvious they just chose the highest ranked school that accepted them. This was for eight students. I believe same goes for committees. Instead of saying things that make you seem like a non shallow person the whole process would be better off if the absolute truth was told for everything. It would save time, money, and stress.

I am not at all surprised.
Day before yesterday, I talked to someone who gave up USC(top20) to go to BU(top40).
In her own words ->

I had an offer from USC Marshall, but I chose to join BU for the scholarship reasons. It definitely helps if you have less risk when taking as big a decision as coming to a whole new country.

So what you think makes sense for some and not so much for the others. Off-course, money plays a huge role.
But rankings and school-rep are the major driving forces. When someone gets into a M7 program, it is only logical that they attend the program rather than going to a more regional school.
