 • Among the restaurants with outdoor seating, the median customer rating is higher than the median rating among the restaurants without outdoor seating. 
 
With outdoor seating = 1 (excellent), 2 (good), 3 (poor), 6 (fair), 8 (excellent), 10 (good). Sorted: poor, fair, good, good, excellent, excellent. Median = between good and good = good.
 
Without outdoor seating = 4 (fair), 5 (excellent), 7 (good), 9 (poor). Sorted: poor, fair, good, excellent. Median = between fair and good. That is between “fair” and “good,” which falls lower than “good.” So the with-seating median is higher.

I don’t quite agree with the solution. For the third option, are we really supposed to take median in between subjective non numerical ratings?

Yes, we can, because the ratings are explicitly ranked in order: poor < fair < good < excellent. Once the problem defines an ordering, taking a median is valid.
