Hello arjunagarwal,

Thanks for writing in and apologies for the delayed response.

You stable work experience, leadership abilities, and exposure to clients from around the world will serve as important talking points; of course you will need to articulate the short term and long term goals with regard to your business in a logical manner.

IESE has a preference for entrepreneurial/family business profiles; hence, we strongly recommend that you work on a set of well-written essays and put forth your strongest application.

All the best!

Hello nharmonia,

You have a good GMAT score and fair bit of international exposure.

The frequent job shifts, as well as the low work experience, may pose a bit of an issue; however, if you are able to justify the shifts as well as articulate your short-term and long-term career goals in a logical manner, you will have a good chance.

You do not seem to have any experience with the family business at present; hence, if you intend to switch over to the business post MBA, you will need to make your motivation for the same very clear. We do not recommend you go the entrepreneurship way because that would require you to have a very clear idea of what you intend to do.

Hope this helps.

All the best!

👋 Hey nharmonia,

Here is what I would suggest:

Your profile is vividly international. Your extensive exposure to trading firms in Amsterdam and London followed by a tech startup indicates your versatile adaptability.

📈 Strengths:
➡️ International Flair: Multiple stints across different global cities show adaptability and global insight. Working in Amsterdam, known for its algorithmic trading expertise, and London, Europe's financial capital, provides invaluable insights.
➡️ Solid Academics: A degree from a top Canadian university and an impressive 730 GMAT score speaks volumes.

🔍 Areas to Enhance:
➡️ Consistency in Work: Multiple short stints can be seen as a lack of commitment. Schools may question if you will bring the same pattern to post-MBA roles.
➡️ Community Engagement: Your profile lacks robust extracurriculars or significant volunteer work.
➡️ Work Experience: Since you are looking for an MBA, I would suggest that you gain at least 3-5 years of experience as most top business schools out there have that as a primary eligibility requirement.

🌐 Recommendations:
➡️ Use your essays to narrate a cohesive story. Why the switch from trading firms to a tech startup? Maybe you drove a 20% efficiency increase through a software solution at the trading firm?
➡️ Deepen your community involvement. Consider initiatives that align with your post-MBA goals of entrepreneurship and expanding the family business.
➡️ Don’t lose hope, as your current experience and GMAT score of 730 won’t go in vain as your profile is extremely good for some for top MiM programs and specialised masters as well.

🎯 Target Schools (MiM and Specialised Masters)
➡️ Dream - LBS, LSE, Rotman, McGill, UCLA, HEC Paris, INSEAD
➡️ Competitive - Imperial, Warwick, Kellogg, Duke, NYU Stern, ESSEC, McCombs
➡️ Safe - Foster, Babson, Manchester, Edinburgh

If you need more help, we'd be happy to set up a FREE call and give more pointers on how to improve your profile and the right schools you should target.
