Stmt (1): c < 0 Since ac > 0 , means if c < 0 then a < 0 as well. sufficient . Stmt (2): b > c Since ac > ab , means if b > c then a < 0 otherwise ab > ac . sufficient . Therefore D is the answer. Hope it helped.

a and c are either both positive or both negative.

(1) Only
c<0, so a is also negative.

(2) Only
When inequality b > c is multiplied by b, we get
ab < ac
It means that c is negative. (If c is positive, we should get ab > ac)

given if 0 < ab < ac , is a -ve possible when case 1 all a,b,c are of same sign since all products ab & ac are >0 #1 if c<0 then b is also <0 and so is a <0 sufficient #2 b>c this will satisfy the given condition only when b& c are -ve so therefore a is also -ve sufficient option D

Statement (2)  tells us that b is greater than c. The signs of b and c are negative then the sign of a will be also be negative.  sufficient
