If 20 liters of chemical X are added to 80 liters of a mixture that is 10% chemical X and 90% chemical Y, then what percentage of the resulting mixture is chemical XI

(A) 15%

(B) 28%

(C) 33 1/3 %

(D) 40%

(E) 60%

If 80 liters of the mixture contains 10% chemical X and 90% chemical Y
there will be 8 liters of chemical X and 72 liters of Chemical Y in the mixture.

Since 20 liters of Chemical X is added to this mixture, we will have
28 liters of Chemical is 28% of the mixture which contains 100 liters.(Option B)

Chemical X = 20 liters

Mixture = 80 liters (8 liters Chemical X , 72 liters Chemical Y)

Total - 100 liters (28 liters Chemical X , 72 liters Chemical Y)

The resulting mixture will have 28% chemical x

Ans: B

let x=% X in final mixture
.1*80+20=x(80+20)
x=.28=28%

20 litres x

80 litres 10 x 90 y i.e 8 litres x and 72 litres Y

mixture =100 litres i.e 20+8 X 72 Y

x= 28%

(B) imo
