Recognized my earlier error was not to change signs for the -ve abs value
|2x+3|+2>7
|2x+3|>5
2|x+1.5|>5
|x+1.5|>2.5
x>2.5+1.5 OR x<-2.5+1.5
x> 4 OR x<-1

Asked: If |2x − 3| + 2 > 7, which of the following could be the value of x ?

|2x-3| > 5
2x -3 > 5
x > 4
or
2x - 3< -5
x < -1

I. −4: x < -1; Could be the value of x
II. 2: Could not be the value of x

Thinking about it logically the equation states that the distance between 3 and 2x is 5. Therefore, the distance between 3 and x has to be 1/2*5=2.5

Imagining the 3 on the number line and adding 2.5 to 3 on the right side results in 5.5 and deducting 2.5 from 3 on the left side, results in 0.5.
Since the equation states that |2x-3|>5, the result has to be further to the left of 0.5 and further to the right of 5.5.
We know for certain that it can not be within the interval 0.5 - 5.5.

The only option that is not in the interval is -4.

Thus Answer A.
