(1) x is given as 4, so you can solve for y. Suf.
(2) x^2=16; X could be +4 or -4. Not suf.

1) If x is 4 then you would be able to calculate what y is. sufficient
2) x could ne negative or positive 4. insufficient.

The answer is A. A very easy question.
