(1) x = 10y
(2) x = 5/7

This is a simple Q.

$$A = \frac{7x}{5y}$$ and we need to find A.

(1) x = 10y. If we substitute the value of x, the y cancels out (note y ≠ 0 is given! and we can find A. Sufficient.

(2) x = 5/7 when substituted leaves y which is a variable in the result. Hence A is not determined. Insufficient.

Hence Option (A) is correct

I personally analyzed first that we have two variables in the question. To determine the value we need to eliminate both variables. Hence, we need a statement or a combination of statements that eliminates these two variables.

Statement (1) does exactly that by substituting x with 10y. This allows us to cancel out y because we have y in the numerator and denominator of the fracttion.

Statement (2) leaves us with y in the denominator and hence doesn't solve the question.

In conclusion, answer A is correct
