My approach was simply to maximize the product.

The largest possible values are:

a = 99
b = 79

So:

ab = 99 × 79 = 7821

Among the answer choices, 8000 is the closest.

Answer: (D)

I found this one pretty straightforward—just take the largest allowed values and compute the product.

a and b are both double digit no and as given a is greater than 60 so 99 as highest 2 digit no, and for b will be 79 as before 80, 79 is highest. so 79*99= 7821 which is closest to 8000. hence option D
