If a rectangular piece of cloth measuring 20 inches by 10 inches is cut into exactly two squares, each of which are then cut into exactly two triangles, what is the area of one of the triangles, in square inches?

By cutting the rectangular cloth in the middle from the length, we get 2 squares with sides 10 inches each.

To cut the square cloth in exactly two triangles, we cut it diagonally. We get 2 isosceles right-angled triangles with height and base as 10 inches each.

Area = 1/2 x b x h
= 1/2 x 10 x 10
= 50 square inches

The area of the rectangle is 200. We cut it in half and then in half again, so in quarters. One quarter has an area of 50.

Since area is exactly divided we can calculate area of rectangle 10*20 = 200

and divide it by 4 = 50 (area of a traingle)
