Solution

Given:
• Anil can finish a job in 4 hours.
• Gustavo can finish the same job in 6 hours.

To find:
• The time to finish the job when both works together.

Approach and Working:
Let us assume the total job is 12 units (LCM of 4 and 6 is 12)

• Anil can do 12 units of work in 4 hours, hence in 1-hour Anil can do $$\frac{12}{4} = 3$$ units
• Gustavo can do 12 units of work in 6 hours, hence in 1-hour Gustavo can do $$\frac{12}{6} = 2$$ units

Together they can do (3 + 2) = 5 units of work in 1 hour.

Therefore, to complete the work, they will take = $$\frac{12}{5}$$ hours = 2 hours 24 minutes.

Hence, the correct answer is option C.

rate of A = 1/4 and rate of G= 1/6
together they can work @ rate = 10/24
time = 24/10 * 60 mins = 144 mins
or say 2 hrs 24 mins
IMO C
