x= I+f, I is integral part and f is fractional part.
[x] = I

\(I^2+I*f = 39\)

since 0<f<1 (f can't be 0, as 39 is not a perfect square)

\(I^2<39\)......(1)

\(I^2+I>39\)......(2)

From (1) and (2)

I=6

\(6^2+6f=39\)
\(6f=3\)
\(f=0.5\)

x= 6+0.5=6.5

Bunuel
If [X] denotes the greatest integer less than or equal to x and x[x] = 39, what is the value of x ?

A. 6
B. 6.25
C. 6.35
D. 6.5
E. 6.75

Greatest Integer function of [6.5]=6
Now,
let x=6.5,
x[x]=6.5 * 6 =39.

hence, X=6.5 , D is correct

For all of the answer choices [x] = 6 and we are given x[x] = 39. So x = 39/[x] = 39/6 = 6.5
