I think question statement should be like this. NOT LESS, BUT GREATER.

If [X] denotes the greatest integer greater than or equal to x and x[x] = 14, what is the value of x ?

Hey Bunuel, can you check if this question is correct. Because as I try to solve, even if x = 3.75, then according to the question [x] = 3; The max we can get is 3 * 3.75 = 11.25
Correct me if I am wrong !

Hey Bunuel, can you check if this question is correct. Because as I try to solve, even if x = 3.75, then according to the question [x] = 3; The max we can get is 3 * 3.75 = 11.25
Correct me if I am wrong !

Just put options to find the answer as 3.5
x = 3.5, [x] = 3
Answer is D

The answer is D.

x[x]= 10.5
So given the condition on [x], the only possible value of x is 3.5.

3*3.5=10.5

For all of these [x] = 3 and we are given x[x] = 10.5. So x = 10.5/[x] = 10.5/3 = 3.5
