If Hugga the rhinoceros weighs twice as much as Behbeh the goat, then Hugga's weight is how many more kilograms than twice the weight of Chippi the ape?

(1) Chippi weighs 34 kilograms less than Behbeh.

(2) Hugga weighs 84 kilograms more than Chippi.

h=2b
h-2c=?

(1) sufic
c=b-34; (2b)-2(b-34)=68

(2) insufic
h=c+84; c+84-2c=84-c=?

This is a simultaneous equations question.
Let 3 animals be represented by the first letter of their names i.e. H, B, and C.
We know that
H = 2B
H = 2C + x, where x is the additional weight in Kgs.

Combine both the equations to get 2B = 2C + x ------ (1)

Question: Find the value of x

To solve the question we need value of H and C or value of B and C or may be a new equation

St 1: C = B - 34
2C = 2B - 68 ------------(2)
From (1) and (2), we get x = 68.
SUFFICIENT

St 2: H = C + 84
We have more variables than the number of equations. INSUFFICIENT

So, the answer is A.

Hope this helps.

Step 1: Understanding the question
The weight of Hugga, Behbeh and Chippi be H, B and C respectively.
H = 2B ---(I)
Then, H = x + 2C
or 2B = x + 2C
Or x = 2B - 2C
Or x = 2( B-C)
Here x is to be found

Quote:
(1) Chippi weighs 34 kilograms less than Behbeh.
Step 2: Understanding statement 1 alone
C = B - 34
Therefore, B-C = 34
x = 68
Sufficient

Quote:
(2) Hugga weighs 84 kilograms more than Chippi.
Step 3: Understanding statement 2 alone
H = C + 84
2B = C + 84
2B - C = 84
x cannot be calculated.
Insufficient

IMO A

If Hugga the rhinoceros weighs twice as much as Behbeh the goat, then Hugga's weight is how many more kilograms than twice the weight of Chippi the ape?

Let R= weight of Rhino, G= weight of goat, A = weight of ape.
Given R=2G

(1) Chippi weighs 34 kilograms less than Behbeh.
- This gives us C= G - 34; OR G= C + 34
Put this in the given equation: R= 2C + 68
This is what we are asked to find out.
Sufficient.

(2) Hugga weighs 84 kilograms more than Chippi.
- This gives us R = C + 84.
We need to find how much more does R weigh from 2C.
There is no way we can get 1*R and 2*C from this equation.
Insufficient.

Answer A.

Hugga's weight = 2x
Behbeh's weight = x
Chippi's weight = y

we're looking for 2x-2y

Statement 1: x-y = 34 --> 2x-2y=68 STATEMENT 1 ALONE SUFFICIENT

Statement 2: 2x = y + 84 --> 2y = 4x - 168 --> 2x - 2y = 168 - 2x NOT SUFFICIENT

Answer A
