If [x] is the lowest even integer greater than x, then \(\frac{[4.3]+[−6.7]}{[−7.2]}=\)

A. −2
B. −5/3
C. 0
D. 1/3
E. 7/4

Asked: If [x] is the lowest even integer greater than x, then \(\frac{[4.3]+[−6.7]}{[−7.2]}=\)

[4.3] = 6
[-6.7]= -6
[-7.2] = -6

Putting values in \(\frac{[4.3]+[−6.7]}{[−7.2]}=\)
\(\frac{6 + (-6)}{(-6)}= 0\)

Hello. could you please elaborate on why [4.3] or [-7.2] become 6 or -6?

Could anyone explain why [4.3] is not equal to 5. Also, [-7.2] is not equal to -7

Pay attention to the highlighted word: If [x] is the lowest even integer greater than x.

Since the lowest even integer greater than 4.3, is 6, then [4.3] = 6.
Also, since the lowest even integer greater than -7.2, is -6, then [-7.2] = -6.

@Bunel - Could you please advise how 4.3 is rounded to 6 since it is supposed to be the lowest even integer?

Thanks!

The wording here is the KEY problem.
If [x] is the lowest even integer greater than x.

BACK to your question
even integers greater than 4.3=6,8,10,12......
The question is asking about the LOWEST of them i.e. 6.

The question is NOT asking about the lowest even integer (Lowest even integer can be -55555550 or -100000000 or -222222222222222 etc)
The question is asking about the lowest even integer greater than that number .
