If Kriti paid a total of Rs. 1,350 for two dresses and sold one at 6% loss and the other at 7.5% profit, what was the price she paid for each dress?
(1) Kriti made neither a profit nor a loss from the transaction.
(2) Kriti sold one dress for Rs. 705.
Solution: Pre Analysis:- First dress:
- CP \(=x\) (let)
- Loss \(=6\%\)
- SP \(=x(1-\frac{6}{100})=0.94x\)
- Second dress:
- CP \(=1350-x\) (let)
- Profit \(=7.5\%\)
- SP \(=(1350-x)(1+\frac{7.5}{100})=1.075(1350-x)\)
- We need the value of \(x\)
Statement 1: Kriti made neither a profit nor a loss from the transaction
- According to this statement, total SP = total CP for Kriti
- Thus, we can say \(0.94x+1.075(1350-x)=1350\)
- We can easily get the value of x fro here
- Thus, statement 1 alone is sufficient and we can eliminate options B, C and E
Statement 2: Kriti sold one dress for Rs. 705
- Accoroding to this statement, either \(0.94x=705\) or \(1.075(1350-x)=705\)
- We will get two different values of x
- Thus, statement 2 alone is not sufficient
Hence the right answer is
Option A
