If, m, r,x,y are positive, is the ratio of m to r equal to the ratio of x to y ?

1) The ratio of m to y is equal to the ratio of x to r.

2) The ratio of m + x to r + y is equal to the ratio of x to y.

Pls. help me to understand why 1 is wrong and 2 is correct, many tks!!

1) says m/y=x/r this means mr=xy . it says nothing of x/y and m/r. So not sufficient.

2 says (m+x)/(r+y) = x/y.
There is a rule for ratios that says if a/b=c/d then a/b=c/d= (a+c)/(b+d). So this is sufficient
