Say for example Nora has = 4 dollars = 400 cents ......Hence, Mary has 2 cents (As Mary has half as many cents as Nora has dollars)
Thus Nora has \(\frac{400}{2}\)*\(100\) % more cents than Mary does
==>Nora has \(20000\) % more cents than Mary does.
Hence , I would go for option E.

Solution



Given:
    • Mary has half as many cents as Nora has dollars

To find:
    • Nora has what percent more cents than Mary does

Approach and Working:
If we assume that Nora has 2x dollars (=200x cents), then
    • Mary will have x cents
    • Nora has more cents compared to Mary, in percent = \(\frac{{200x – x}}{x} * 100\) = 19900%

Hence, the correct answer is option D.

We can assume that Mary has 10 cents and thus Nora has 20 dollars, or 2000 cents. Using the “percent greater than” formula: (Nora - Mary)/Mary x 100%, we see that Nora has

(2000 - 10)/10 x 100%

1990/10 x 100%

199 x 100%

19,900% more cents than Mary does.

Answer: D
