The square root of 1/16 is 1/4, so that's the value of n. But that's not what the question asks us to find; the question wants √n, and the square root of 1/4 is 1/2.
The real GMAT does test your attention to detail in questions similar to this one, so you could see a similar 'trick' on test day -- it's important to slow down, especially in simple-looking questions like this one, to be sure you've interpreted everything correctly and that you're answering the precise question asked.
