If an MBA isn't in the future, what are some other options?
As an engineer with manufacturing operations and technical experience, could someone give some insight into potential paths to break into the investment management career?
From my understanding, a CFA is excellent once you are in that field but would something like a Masters in Finance help to break into this career?

I would think so. Master in Financial Engineering also helps if you want to break into the finance area.
