You are multiplying both sides by r/r(=1)..The left side of the equation remains p=(p*1) while RHS is written somewhat differently than before(but the value remains the same)

You are not really multiplying both sides by r.

p = r -s/r

r = r^2/r

so: p = (r^2-s)/r
