Can someone explain this question. Thanks!

If Renee earns a raise of between 5% and 10%, non-inclusive, by what fraction could her salary have increased?
A rise between \(5%<rise<10%\)

A)1/4 = rise 25%
B)1/5 = rise 20%
C)1/10 = rise 10%

E and D are left, D is not easy to calculate, E on the other hand equals a 5% rise (1/10=10% divided by 2)

D)2/25
E)1/20 = rise 5%

So D is correct (which is 8% BTW)

Hope it's clear

If Renee earns a raise of between 5% and 10%, non-inclusive, by what fraction could her salary have increased?

A. 1/4 = 0.25 = 25%
B. 1/5 = 0.2 = 20%
C. 1/10 = 0.1 = 10%
D. 2/25 = 0.08 = 8%
E. 1/20 = 0.05 = 5%.

The raise was between 5% and 10%, non-inclusive, thus it could have been only D.

Answer: D.

Wow it was so simple Totally misread the question I thought you had to pick a salary figure and then calculate the percentage increase...

Hey,

Perhaps it is also easy to just translate the % into fractions:

6%: 6/100 = 3/50
7%: 7/100
8%: 8/100 = 4/50 = 2/25
9%: 9/100

Only 2/25 exists in the answer choices, so ANS D
