If Scott has earned x dollars by working 3 days a week at a constant daily rate for w weeks, which of the following represents his daily wage?

A. 3xw
B. 3w/x
C. w/(3x)
D. xw/3
E. x/(3w)

I tried like this...

Let Scott earned X be 60 dollars by working 3 days per week and w be 2 weeks.. ( taken common multiple of 3 and 2 )

Total he worked for 6 days ( as it is 2 weeks) then per day he earned 10$ per day..

Let sub this value in options

A. 3xw => 3 * 60 * 2 -- not the expected value
B. 3w/x => 3*2/60 -- not the expected value
C. w/(3x) => 2/3*60 -- not the expected value
D. xw/3 => 60 * 2 /3 -- not the expected value
E. x/(3w) => 60 / 3*2 -- 10 $ as expected..

IMO E is correct answer...

OA please..will correct if I missed anything..

There are two different ways to solve these "Variables in the Answer Choices" questions.
Your approach (which I call the INPUT-OUTPUT approach) is perfect.

Cheers,
Brent

A. 3xw
B. 3w/x
C. w/(3x)
D. xw/3
E. x/(3w)

Alternatively, say

For w weeks, he gets $x.
Weekly pay out = x/w
But every week, he works for 3 days. So daily payout = x/3w
Answer (E)

Total money earned =3*d*w= x

d= x/3w

E is the answer

x dollars
3 days/week
w weeks
we need the units to be dollars/day
therefore we multiple days/week by weeks => days
and then we divide dollars / days
so x/3*w
