If Susan was 31 years old, 5 years ago, she must be 36 years old now.
So x years ago, Susan's age must be 36-x(Option C)

We can let Susan’s current age = s; thus:

s - 5 = 31

s = 36

So, x years ago, she was 36 - x years old.

Answer: C
