Sum of 4 numbers = 4*30 = 120
1)So, set of numbers can be 20, 20, 40, 80
Here, 2 numbers are greater than 30
Another set of numbers can be 20, 20, 25, 55
Here, only 1 number is greater than 30 - Insufficient!
2)None of the numbers = 30
So, set of numbers can be 20, 20, 40, 80
Here, 2 numbers are greater than 30
Another set of numbers can be 20, 20, 25, 55
Here, only 1 number is greater than 30 - Insufficient!
Combining (1) & (2) also we will have the same set and hence insufficient!
(E), IMO!

Asked: If the average (arithmetic mean) of 4 numbers is 30, how many of the numbers are greater than 30 ?

(1) Two of the numbers are equal to 20.
Case 1: (20,20,40,40): 2 numbers are greater than 30
Case 2: (20,20,0,80): 1 number is greater than 30.
NOT SUFFICIENT

(2) None of the numbers are equal to 30.
Case 1: (20,20,40,40): 2 numbers are greater than 30
Case 2: (20,20,0,80): 1 number is greater than 30.
NOT SUFFICIENT

(1) + (2)
(1) Two of the numbers are equal to 20.
(2) None of the numbers are equal to 30.
Case 1: (20,20,40,40): 2 numbers are greater than 30
Case 2: (20,20,0,80): 1 number is greater than 30.
NOT SUFFICIENT

The total of 4 numbers is 120. How many are greater than 30?

Statement 1:

The other two numbers add up to 80. We could have TWO above 30 or ONE above 30. Insufficient.

Statement 2:

Insufficient.

Combined:

The logic from statement 1 can still apply. Insufficient.
