If the average (arithmetic mean) of x and y is positive,

St1) xy < 0

Out of x and y, any one is positive and other is negative. Hence, not sufficient to say that x is postive.

ST 2)
x+y > 0 ( as avg is positive), atleast one of x and y MUST be positive
Quote:
whenever the sum of 2 numbers is positive, at least one of them must be positive.
Also, whenever sum of 2 numbers is negative, at least one of them must be negative.
Since x = y +4, so x > y.
Hence, if both x and y are positive, x is positive. Or, if only only one of them is positive, then also x is positive.

Hence, Suff to say that x is positive.
