To solve this question
Let’s name the 5 integers A,B,C,D,E
E = 40(in the question it says the largest of integers is 40)
And we have an equation
A+B+C+D+40/5 = 16 (it’s says mean = 16)
Multiply both sides by 5
A+B+C+D+40 = 80
Now let’s see the median of it
Let’s first order them from smallest to largest
A,B,C,D,40
Median = C
Now let’s substitute C with the options
Option 1 : A+B+10+D+40 = 80
Now we know that A<10 and B<10 and D>10
We can see now that if we substitute the A,B and D we can 30 without breaking a rule
2+8+10+20+40 = 80
Option 2: A+B+15+D+40 = 80
A+B+D = 65
Let’s see if we can get 65 by substitute
14+16+35 = 65
Option 3 :
A+B+20+D+40 = 80
A+B+60+D = 80
WAIT!!!!!
D should be bigger than 20 but if it’s 21 let’s say than we get a number over 80!
Therefore,
Answer = D
