total cost =(7*18)+(16*10)=286

Total number of days of stay = 23
Charge of staying in first week = 18*7 = 126 $
Charge of staying for additional days =(23-7)*10 = 16*10 = 160 $
Total charge =126 +180 = 286$

To stay in the hostel for 23 days, it would cost:

18(7) + 10(16) = 126 + 160 = $286
