It asks for odd numbers and that is possible only with [1,3,5,7,9]. hence 5 possible numbers for the 5th digit.

I'm a little confused. Why 8 possible numbers for the first digit? And is the OA 40, 000?

Seyi, I said 8 possible numbers because in a set of [0,1,2,...,9] there are 10 numbers but the question stem said that the first digit cannot be 0 or 5, which leaves 8 possible choices for the first digit.
