Answer option A is a subtle trap for people who do not visualise the diagram and fall for the values they have seen on other questions related to right angled triangles. Agreed that 6, 8 and 10 is a Pythagorean triplet; that does not mean that you choose 6 because you saw a 8 and a 10.
In a Geometry question on the GMAT, it is important to always draw the diagram on paper instead of trying to visualise it mentally.Let us do exactly that now.

From the figure, its clear that the figure formed is a right angled triangle with legs of 8 units and 10 units.
Applying the Pythagoras theorem, length of the hypotenuse = √\(( 8^2+10^2)\) = \(√(64+100) \)= \(√164\)
From your knowledge of perfect squares, you will recognise that the square root of 169 is 13. Since 169 is the closest perfect square to 164, the nearest approximate square root of 164 is 13.
The hypotenuse in the diagram represents the distance between the mall and the office park. Therefore, the approximate distance between the mall and the office park is 13 miles.
The correct answer option is E.
