x + x + 2 + x + 4 + x + 6 = 340

4x + 12 = 340

4x = 328

x = 82.

3rd = 86

4th = 88

Average must be 87.

D is the correct answer.

4 consecutive integers can be written as 2n, 2n+2, 2n+4, 2n+6

Given
2n + 2n+2 + 2n+4 + 2n+6 = 340

To find
(2n+4 + 2n+6)/2

Solution

8n+12=340
Thus n = 41

(2n+4 + 2n+6)/2 can be simplified to (4n+10)2

Substitute n as 41 we get 87

(D)

avg of two large integers = 86+88/2 = 87
