Don't solve for x, just keep it simple and create x^8:

If \(x^2 = \sqrt{2}\), then \(x^8 =\)

C. \(4^{\sqrt{2}}\)

D. 8

For this question, it may first help to SQUARE the expression (\(x^2 = \sqrt{2}\)) on both sides:

\((x^2)^2 = (\sqrt{2}\))^2 ----> \(x^4 = 2\)

If we SQUARE both sides again, we get

\((x^4)^2 = (2)^2\) ----> \(x^8 = 4\)

(B) is your answer.
