Forget conventional ways of solving math questions. In PS, IVY approach is the easiest and quickest way to find the answer.

If x≠3 and (x^2 - 9)/(2y) = (x - 3)/4, then in terms of y, x = ?

A. (y - 6)/2
B. (y - 3)/2
C. y - 3
D. y - 6
E. (y + 6)/2

Since (x^2 – 9)=(x-3)(x+3) the original equation can be changed into 4*(x-3)(x+3) = 2y *(x-3).
By cancelling 2(x-3) (we can do it because x≠3) we get :
2*(x+3)=y.
So x=(y-6)/2. So the answer is A).
