If x and y are integers and x/y is an even integer,what is the value of x?
1. xy=36
2. y is an even integer.
Hey guys this question is from the book PR 1012 Pg 139 #17 and I was wondering whether the 2nd stmt has a printing error.
Stmt 1:insufficient. x=36,y=1 and x=12,y=3 both satisy the condition.
Stmt 2 is odcourse insuff.
Combined:How can y be even?HELP!

18:2 = 9
12:3 =4
9:4 = 2.25
6:6 = 1
for x/y to be even with y being even you can see that is impossible. So (2) doesn't really do anything because we couldve figured out y has to be odd and even with that X could still be 36 or 12 so that's why it is E. So they couldve put y=even there to confuse people OR it might've been meant to be ODD but in the end it is still E. HTH kudos.

Remember every statement need not be of any help. It can be there to make you waste your time to ponder upon.
I had a question where the question said x > 1 and one of the statements said that x > 0 which is obvious from the question itself.
So dont worry about it, rather concentrate on whether it will provide you with a solution or not.
